2023:
I am a senior lecturer on the BA Textile Design course at Chelsea College of Arts. I predominantly teach on Stage 1, working across all disciplines to deliver core content and tutorials. I work closely with the Year 1 leader to develop curriculum, unit briefs and lead on assessment. I teach in large group settings of 50 – 100 students as well as small group and tutorials. Its interesting as I work with students for the entire year before they specialise into their chosen dicipline, this means the focus is on developing the students understanding of textiles as a subject area and textile design processes. I am in an interesting position in my role as I teach both studio and material based practice as well as critical practice. This allows for insights into how critical practice can better feed into the material component of assessment.
Alongside my role on the BA, I am also a tutor for the optional placement year (DPS) that runs between the 2nd and 3rd year of the course. This course is small (12 students) and all teaching is online. Delivery is done over teams and resources are posted onto miro. The course aims for students to reflect on their employable skills whilst on industry internships and work placements.
2026:
During the course of the PgCert I started a new role as the Coordinator for the Diploma in Professional Studies across CCW. This new role requires the development of curriculum for all students across different design disciplines. The way I have structured teaching and planning now involves a consideration for a wider range of learning and industry requirements as students specialise in textiles, graphics, illustration, interior design, product development, furniture design, theatre making and technical arts for screen etc.
This role has also seen me take the course through a revalidation process where we embedded UAL’s Climate Racial and Social Justice guiding principles as well as ecological and regenrative models of design. The later work on my PgCert focuses on my responsibilites in this role.
